Google to compensate gay and lesbian employees

 

In a move aimed at providing equal rights to all workers, Google will begin covering a tax levied on gay and lesbian employees for domestic partner health benefits. Under federal law, health benefits provided by employers for domestic partners is considered taxable income, resulting in gay and lesbians paying an average of $1,069 more per year in taxes than a comparable married employee.
