Most of Texas could see afternoon high temperatures of 100 degrees and hotter on Monday before the upper-level ridge compressing surface heat begins yielding to a cool front on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
A heat advisory was issued for the eastern half of Texas for Monday. Temperatures of 100 to 107 will be seen statewide, except for upper 90s in the Panhandle, South Plains, West Texas mountains, immediate Gulf Coast and along the Sabine River in east Texas. Southeast Texas could see a 20 percent chance of scattered showers. Winds will be easterly at 5 to 10 mph.
Monday night will see thunderstorms begin to enter the Panhandle with the front. Otherwise, practically all of the state will be rain-free with lows in the upper 70s in the eastern half, mid-70s from the West Texas rolling plains to the Concho Valley, and upper 60s and low 70s in Panhandle, South Plains, Permian Basin and Trans-Pecos of West Texas. Winds will be light and variable, except for northwesterly at 10-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph with the front in the Dalhart area.
