Thursday Night Live, First Friday
Tonight (Thursday) is another installment of the Weekly's and Central Market's free outdoor concert series, Thursday Night Live. Onstage on CM's spacious patio tonight will be Dylanesque Fort Worth singer-songwriter Jason Worley and headliners the Texas Gypsies. Central Market is located at 4651 W. Fwy. at Hulen, and the music will get going at 6 o'clock sharp. Tomorrow night (Friday) is another installment of another regular concert series, the Weekly's and Fort Worth South Inc.'s First Friday on the Green. Tomorrow's show will feature three killer Fort Worth acts: the Stones-y Quaker City Nighthawks, the Eagles-y Chatterton, and early-R.E.M.-ish Fate Lions. The tunes get going at around 6. Bring your friends and lawn chairs and/or blankets, but leave the coolers at home -- frosty cold beverages, water, and food will be available for sale. First Friday on the Green takes place at Magnolia Green Park (1100 block of Lipscomb between Rosedale and West Magnolia). Eight-O Getting Indie-Local
The venerable Sundance Square bar/restaurant, 8.0, has just started a new weekly concert series. Thursday Night Originals will feature mostly local artists of the mostly indie-rock variety, starting tonight (Thursday) with Shinyribs, a side project of a member of The Gourds, who are from, of all places, Austin. Anyway, the rest of the month's calendar features two of Fort Worth's finest: The Orbans (Aug. 12) and Telegraph Canyon (Aug. 26). Happy Birthday, Granada Theater
In celebration of the legendary Dallas venue's sixth anniversary, indie-rock darlings Built to Spill will perform on Wed., Aug. 11, along with Finn Riggins and the aforementioned Telegraph Canyon. Tickets are only 20 measly bucks. See you at Granada Theater.
