NPR stations are the largest group of major market radio stations that truly support the music created by a multitude of indie record labels and artists in the USA.
NPR is not perfect by a long shot.
But if you think it is difficult for indie artists to get noticed throughout the USA today. Just shut down the NPR stations and see what happens.
Satellite Radio will be the only hope of getting national airwave exposure on a consistent basis. The major labels would be thrilled since they seem to control what is heard on the vast majority of 100,000 watt radio stations nationwide, EXCLUDING most NPR stations. Loosing NPR would mean less competition again for the big boys.
We have no dog in this race. The RMA is just trying to keep Independent Roots Music growing.
