Few Tips for Custom Home Builders

A few tips for those of you who may be considering building a Custom Home ... Have everything you can built in...like, china cabinets, dressers, bookshelves, entertainment centers, etc.  Of course the downside is you can't take them with you, but, by then you most likely will want new stuff, anyway.

The big advantage is you can pick what kind of wood you want, stain colors, size of all drawers, lightning, etc.  I mean we do if for kitchen cabinets, etc., why not everything?  If and when you move, you will be glad to not have to move all these items.

And, in kitchen and laundry room, make sure you have deep sinks installed. Faucets with sensors are big help as well in preventing food contamination.

And don't forget to have a walk-in pantry built with shelves as well as a counter top.  Make shelves different sizes ....... just inside the door have a custom spice rack built that goes from the ceiling to floor. Recommend you refrigerator back into the pantry as well.  That way you can access and work on it from inside the pantry and not have to pull it out.

Have auto light switches installed on all doors that go into pantries, closets .... any area that may be real dark.....so, when you open door lights come on .... just remember to close them.  Of you can have motion sensors installed?

When building a custom home think large open rooms with high ceilings; wider hallways; double front doors, high end counter-tops/appliances/etc.

The best part, you can layout every square foot so there is no wasted space.

And don't forget to plan that tornado shelter/safe room.  Remember no larger than 8' x 8' ..... this is the largest size that will withstand winds up to 300 mph.  Install phone as well as heating and cooling. Store plenty of water, etc. to last a few day.

Just a few things I have learned from all the different homes I have owned ...... I am sure there are many more.

Happy building!!
