Update and REPEAL It!

Two days ago the Club for Growth launched Repeal It!, a campaign to encourage citizens, candidates, and lawmakers to pledge to support the repeal and replacement of any health care takeover passed by Congress this year. So far, the response has been overwhelming.
In the campaign's first 48 hours, the Repeal It! pledge has already been signed by:

  • 20 sitting members of Congress;
  • 57 House and Senate candidates; and,
  • More than 4,300 American citizens.
Hundreds of Club members kicked off the campaign, along with early signers like Senator Jim DeMint, Congressman Jeff Flake, and Senate candidate Rand Paul. Every major Republican primary candidate in at least five states has signed the pledge, guaranteeing voters in Nevada, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Kansas a Repeal It! option in November.

Perhaps most gratifying of all, support for the pledge among pro-growth conservative citizens, candidates, and lawmakers has led to an influx of moderate Republicans signing on. This is exactly how a principle organization like the Club for Growth can drive and define a political message, and we owe it all to you.

As some of you no doubt noticed, the Repeal It! website was so flooded with users in the first hour that downloading speed was severely slowed. But those early problems have been solved, and the site has been reinforced to handle the unexpectedly high traffic. If you haven't checked it out yet, go to www.repealit.org, take the pledge, and tell your friends.

I've also attached below my op-ed piece from Thursday's Politico, which lays out the case for taking the health care pledge before ObamaCare even passes. This is not about surrender - have you ever known the Club, Jim DeMint, or Tom Coburn to surrender? - but about defining and clarifying the health care debate. Wavering Democrats - made all the more nervous about their health care votes by the razor-thin Senate race in Massachusetts - need to understand that even if they pass their health care takeover, the fight will not be over.

The Club helped to lead the fight against ObamaCare in 2009, and we remain on the front lines in that fight in 2010. But we must also prepare for the next phase, in 2011 and beyond. Enjoy the piece, please check out the Repeal It! page, and take the pledge yourself. And if you have a moment, see if your Congressman, Senators, and candidates are signed up, and if not...maybe drop them a line and ask why not...

As always, please consider donating to the Club for Growth so that we can continue to pressure Congress and educate the public about the bad, anti-growth policies being promoted this year like ObamaCare.

Finally, the Club for Growth Winter Conference in Palm Beach, Florida is only weeks away. Speakers include Steve Forbes, Larry Kudlow, several members of Congress, and others you won't want to miss meeting and hearing from. To learn more, please contact Maria Gullo at (202) 955-5500 or at mgullo@clubforgrowth.org.

Have a great weekend.

Best Regards,

Chris
