Being Poor .... Then and Now

What does 'poor' mean? 

There was a time when poor only meant you didn't have much money ..... there was a time when poor people ate well (they grew or raised everything they ate) .....there was a time when poor people enjoyed their lives of simplicity and minimalism. 

 How could this have been and now it's portrayed as something to do with equal rights/a level playing field??? 

It's really quite simple: There was a time when poor people were very happy because they depended on God's guidance and their faith to guide them through each day; today many of the poor depend on government to support and give them free stuff to sustain their lives ..... there was a time when this kind of thinking and dependency was considered disgraceful and brought shame on a family. There was a time when being on welfare was the LAST thing a family would ever think of being a part.  What happened?? 

 But, that was then, this is now.
