Our Diminished Meaning/Misuse of the Word: HERO

Many are calling the NYC Police Officer a 'hero' for buying a pair of boots for a homeless man....I think it was a great
Samaritan thing to do, but by no means does this make him a hero! If it does, why aren't all the kids that daily raise money for different charities around the world.....WHY aren't all of them 'hero's'???  Why aren't all people that give to charities as well as those who adopt kids from around the world; why aren't all of them HEROES?

In my opinion, the word hero is one of the most misused words in America??? At one time 'hero' was used to describe soldiers who committed acts of extreme bravely or people like firefighters on 9/11 who give their lives attempting to save others.  To me there is NO comparison to a soldier or fireman or a policeman that has given their lives protecting us from aggressors and maintaining our freedom/lives.

Jesus was a hero, but, I don't recall the Bible calling him a 'hero'??? HE is the world's Savior. (I may be wrong on the word 'hero' being used in the Bible.......but, I have never read it .... King James Version.....Men of Valor and Man of Valor are used)

Words have a history of bonafide meanings; can we stop misusing them as well as diminishing their true meanings???
